The Demon Etrigan Vs. The Gargoyle

~Who would win???~

Height: 6'4" (as The Demon); 6' (as Jason Blood)
Weight: 352 lbs. (as The Demon); 182 lbs. (as Jason Blood)
Occupation: Deposed King of Hell ; Demonologist
First Appearance: Demon #1 (1972)

Even among demons, Etrigan is considered to be extremely powerful. He has above superhuman strength (mystically enhanced) and a high degree of resistance to injury. He can project hellfire from his body; usually from his mouth, and has a very high command of magic.
Other powers include mystically enhanced fangs and claws, enhanced senses, super speed, agility, telepathy, energy blasts, and precognition. His sadomasochistic nature allows him to enjoy pain as if it were pleasure, making him generally fearless in the face of combat and torture. His healing factor can handle an incredible amount of damage, allowing him to recover from wounds that have removed large sections of his body.  Etrigan is also provided with insight to religious aspects and other forbidden or secret knowledge.

Height: (as Isaac Christians) 5’9”; (as Gargoyle) 5’10”
Weight: (as Isaac Christians) 150 lbs.; (as Gargoyle) 204 lbs.
Occupation: Former Mayor, soldier; adventurer, sometimes villain
First Appearance: Defenders #94 (1981)

Gargoyle can fly, and is able to fire bio-mystic blasts which steal part of the victim’s soul; he can also reverse this to strengthen others with his own life-force. He can form bio-energy shields to deflect magical attacks, as well as transmute matter.  This bio-energy also jams sorcerer's attempts to locate him. His body is immortal, does not need to breathe, can regenerate lost limbs, and is super-humanly strong and durable. He can breathe a bio-mystic fire which can remove madness and evil from people. But The Gargoyle can be used as a familiar by more experienced magicians, and Isaac has a limited knowledge of magic.

And if you break down their skill-sets into (non-existent) HeroScape stats- you'll see that they're pretty evenly matched:

So, as Dale is fond of asking: Who wins and why?

  1. my familiarity with these two characters is to scant to seriously weigh in on this as opposed to a Man-Thing vs Swamp Thing match up but check this out any ways

    1. Well- check out the stats, man! -Or pick a favorite... Or throw a third hat into the ring. The only rule is there are no rules!

Swampy would hand Man-Thing it's own ass, by the way.

That's a great post- thanks for the link!

    2. ok fuck it i'll go out on a limb and say Ghost Rider can take them both even though he can't take on a good movie project that seems to be even beyond the powers of the spirit of vengeance. not taking anything away from Man-Thing because I obviously like the character as seen in my recent MT ROM team up fan art but Swamp Thing is actually a force of nature and commands that power not unlike how THOR commands the elements. even the Man-Thing's burning touch, great strength and resistance to harm/pain can't contend with that.

  2. Damnit King! Cannot I not have anything!? LOL.
Well at least yo include stats like I'm too lazy to do, so good on you for that.
Personally? I'm going with Etrigan here. As you pointed out, they're too evenly matched up power-wise, but Etrigan/Blood edge out Gargoyle/Christians in experience. They've just been doing this far, far longer, and thus know more nasty tricks.

    Good pick though.

So, anything else you plan on stealing? Back Issue Spotlight? What The Fuck Were They Thinking? The Top 5/10 list? Actually making your own skits?

    Should I be worried?;)

    1. Top 10... Mort of The Month... I can't steal what you've already stolen! ;)

Yeah, I think I'ma have to go for Etrigan too. Like you say: Experience. -He is definitely more leveled-up.

Stay tuned for my next post, I call it: True Story- What A Hoot!
